Oyo 2019: Can Seyi Mankinde replace Ajimobi?

Like other states in the South West region of Nigeria, Oyo State is a state with the highest number of conscious voters, who examine various options before electing politicians for local, state and federal positions.  Using a sociopolitical organisation’s social media post, Infoprations analysed the votes of the followers and found that Engineer Seyi Makinde, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party for the governorship election in the state, is likely to be the elected Governor in 2019.
On October 21, 2018, Oyo Affairs asked “Who has a better chance of becoming Oyo State Governor, come 2019?” Out of 269 followers who voted, Engineer Makinde polled a total of 113 votes followed by Adebayo Adelabu, the All Progressives Congress’s candidate, with 87 votes. Senator Olufemi Lanlehin had 47 votes.
One of the voters note that “All of you, APC supporter, mark my words by 2019 Engineer Seyi Makinde will defeat Adebayo Adelabu, Christopher Alao-Akala, Olufemi Lanlehin and others . Who is Penkelemesi? Who is Ajimobi?”

“Though the battle is between Seyi and Penkelemesi, but Seyi has better chance,” another follower added after voting. Some voters believe that Adebayo Adelabu would be the governor because of his late grandfather, Adelabu Peculiar Mess’ political achievements during Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s era.
However, Popularity index analysis reveals that Adebayo Adelabu was the most popular candidate from 27th September to 24th October, 2018. He attained 728 Popularity Index Status during the period. Chief Christopher Adebayo Akala had the second highest PI status (536) while Engineer Seyi Makinde trailed the duo with 350’s Popularity Index Status.
