UMC countries edge Africa’s contender for 2026 World Cup



Information from the Federation Internationale de Football Association indicates that Morocco has lost its hosting bid to the United States of America, Mexico and Canada for 2026 World Cup. The African country was by a vote of 134-65, dashing the hope of the Africa continent to have the world’s biggest football tournament for the second time.
The decision was reached by the members of the 68th FIFA Congress who convened in Moscow Wednesday, 13 June, The tournament will be hosted in the North America for the first time since the 1994 event hosted by the United States of Africa. It was held in Mexico in 1970 and 1986, and Canada has never hosted.
This is the first time the World Cup will be hosted by three countries. In the past, FIFA have had two countries hosting the fiesta. On the number of matches that would be played in the three countries, FIFA states that majority of the tournament will be on the United States soil. Out of the 80 matches, 10 will be held in Canada, 10 in Mexico and 60 in the United States including the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
