As the killings
continue unabated in Nigeria, Infoprations’
analysis has revealed that Nigerian government needs to provide insurance cover
for the victims in addition to the one being given to the
members of the security agencies.
The cover needs to be
provided in collaboration with the existing insurance companies and other
actors in insurance sector. This is imperative because urgent steps need to be
taken to rescue the country from the herders of death and other unnecessary
killings being perpetrated by unknown gunmen in remote
areas.
Analysis reveals that Nigerians’
interest in understanding various killings in the country from January 1st to
July 18th, 2018 calls for the provision of insurance cover for the victims by
85.3%. During the period, Nigerians searched for Benue killings, Plateau killings, killings in Benue,
Jos killings, Plateau State killings, Plateau State, Benue State killings, Zamfara
killings, killings in Benue State, killings in Plateau State, Plateau killings
pictures, Jos killings today and recent Plateau killings. These were the top queries and found to
associate with the killings by 93.2%.
Having understood the magnitude of the killings,
Nigerians in 24 states including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja searched
for insurance companies, what is insurance, health insurance, life insurance, insurance
policy, AIICO insurance, insurance
companies in Nigeria, meaning of insurance, types of insurance, First Bank
insurance, marine insurance, custodian insurance, national health insurance
scheme, Mansard Insurance, travel insurance, cornerstone insurance, WAPIC
insurance, Ensure insurance, benefits of insurance, NEM insurance and NSIA insurance. The specific search carried out on the
insurance companies, insurance policies and their categories shows that
Nigerians wanted to find out how insurance could be the last hope for the
families of the victims.

Analysis further indicates that the search
interest of the people in Benue State within the insurance queries connected with
“what is insurance” while people in Plateau and Kogi States associated with “health
insurance” and “WAPIC Insurance” respectively. For the people in Benue State, it means they
were interested in knowing the essence of insurance as the killings continue.
The people in Plateau State were specific in their search by appropriating
their resource towards health insurance policy. Citizens in Kogi State sought
information on WAPIC, one of the insurance companies in the country.
Insights from the analysis have confirmed the
call made by Rev. Bembem Ayami, the cleric in charge of the Presbyterian Church
of Nigeria, Minna, for insurance cover for all missionaries in Niger State
recently. According to him, “Even as we
believe that God cares for us and protects us, insurance is vital in our
churches, especially for those of us in the Middle Belt.”
