It has appeared that the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party, is ready to slug it out with the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress in the area of perceived rigging machinery. In a statement made available to the mainstream media yesterday, the party said that it had become manifest to Nigerians and all parties that the APC was only interested in rigging elections brazenly. Hence, it will contend with APC, head to head, means to means, scheme to scheme, shenanigan for shenanigan, in all ramifications and magnitude, to discomfit them in all coming elections in the country.
The statement adds that
the ruling party has been found using security forces and compromised electoral
officers to rig election against the PDP since the emergence of President
Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
Before the press release,
Positive Campaign Initiative has earlier discovered a post from one of the
supporters of the APC on Facebook. The writer of the post claimed that the
candidate of the PDP, Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke said in a rally that
Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola would help him with cash for the
September 22 election.
As at the time of
writing this analysis, the post has divided followers (potential voters in the
state) of the Facebook User. Some accused the poster for discrediting the PDP’s
candidate. PCI equally discovered some believed that the post might be true. As
the argument rages on, one of the commenters posted the video of the event
where Senator Adeleke made the statement.
Meanwhile, PCI’s
analysis of the select views expressed on the issue indicates that potential
voters in the September 22 election are sad and in state of fear. Analysis also
shows that they are angry about the statement. PCI believes that the PDP’s
statement will heat up the ongoing campaigns and be one of the factors that will
contribute to low voters turnout during the election.
