With 11 days to the much
expected governorship election in Osun State, the outgoing Governor, Rauf
Aregbesola has once again confirmed Infoprations’
prediction that the ruling party might not win the election if payment of
outstanding salary is not prioritised.
In the early hours of today,
news posted on the Governor’s
official social networking site notes that the state government has
committed N19 billion for the full payment of August salary and other emoluments in the State.
“The State Government of Osun has commenced the gradual
disbursement of Nineteen Billion, Eight Hundred and One Million, Three Hundred
and Twenty-Eight Thousand, Two Hundred and Seventy-One Naira, Twenty-Two Kobo
(19,801,328,271.22) as salaries and other entitlements to its workers,” the
report says.
In the last four hours, the
post has attracted 97 comments, 257 likes and 213 shares with mixed
reactions from the followers. From the 49 reactions mined and analysed by Infoprations, analysis shows that 38.60%
believe that Governor Rauf should not be commended because workers in the State
worked for the payment. Analysis equally indicates that 33.30% consider the
payment as one of the APC’s winning strategies for the September 22 election.
“Who is deceiving who? Election is coming and they are paying
August salaries in mid-September while others are preparing to get their
September salaries. After election, salaries will be on hold and workers would
be at mercy of God,” one of the followers noted.
Another follower notes that “Aregbesola deliberately waited
till this moment of electioneering. This is another display of insensitivity to
workers’ plight.”
