With 17 days to September 22
governorship election, it has appeared that the All Progressives Congress is
ready to amass maximum votes from the West region. Few hours ago, Ogbeni Rauf
Aregbesola appointed Honourable Rasaq Ayobami Salensile as the new Chief of
Staff to the Governor, replacing Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola, the APC’s
candidate for the election.
This appointment aligns with
the Infoprations’ earlier report that the region would be a battlefield for the
main political parties –the APC and PDP during the September 22 election. The
party has also earlier selected Benedict Olugboyega Alabi as the Deputy
Governorship Aspirant from the region, to pacify the people of the region ahead
of the crucial election for the two parties.
Infoprations believes that this is an attempt to get massive votes
from 141,137 registered voters in Iwo Federal Constituency comprising Ayedire, Iwo
and Ola-Oluwa local councils by the ruling party to avoid major defeat.
Meanwhile mixed
reactions have trailed the appointment on the Governor Aregbesola’s official
Facebook page, especially from the people in the West region. “Mr. Governor
you are now correcting yourself that we are in Osun State. It seems like it is
late for you to make Osun West happy,” one of his followers said.
Some people observe that
the gesture for the region is already late for the ruling party to win the
region while some believe the Governor is correcting his mistakes. “Iwo will be
delivered to APC in this coming gubernatorial election by the grace of God,”
another follower noted.
Honourable Salensile is from
Iwo Local Council, the headquarters of Osun West Senatorial District and Iwo
Federal Constituency. Before his appointment, Honourable Salensile was the Secretary
of the party in the state.
