How Arakunrin Ajelogbon Intends to Use PAN’s Report on Oyetola to Seek Favour from Government Officials
Arakunrin Ajelogbon |
PAN,
a non-government organisation in the state, releases its first Open
Governance Working Paper Series, where it stresses the need for revamping
the civic engagement processes and Communication Infrastructure in the state by
the government.
Check
reveals that Mukhtar Arakunrin Ajelogbon, who is working with OsunReporters, shared part
of the report with the
Osun Community Awareness Initiative and 66 people on his Facebook Page.
Check further indicates that majority of the people and entities he shared the
post with belong to the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress and media
practitioners in the state.
Resharing of the post called attention of Rasheed Adebiyi to the post.
Thereafter, Rasheed Adebiyi, one of the Co-Conveners of the group engaged Arakunrin
Ajelogbon in a WhatsApp conversatio.

Rasheed
Adebiyi: I write concerning a post I saw on your timeline
on Facebook yesterday. The line you dropped bordering on the creation of local
Communication Infrastructure by Oyetola as done by his predecessors was said by
me drawing from my team's close to a year monitoring of the communication
activities of Mr. Governor. I felt such a statement should have been credited
properly. I said same on Rave FM yesterday morning.
I
find it extremely needful to do this because I felt we need not engage in
unnecessary online brawl as I have evidences that could prove my assertions. I
am sure as journalists; you and I understand the rules guiding attribution and plagiarism.
I suggest you do the needful. Thanks.
Arakunrin
Ajelogbon: Sir, I have never had none seen what I wrote
from anywhere or person. However, ideas are not limited to some certain
individuals, some people also think alike in many occasions. I will never
engage in plagiarism. Thanks.
Rasheed
Adebiyi: This is not a matter of thinking alike, my
brother. This was a clear case of
plagiarism. You have been in this state for over 13 months of the governor's
administration, you never for once talked about him creating any communication
infrastructure such as what you mentioned yesterday. You posted your newly found ideas some minutes
after 9am immediately after the programme ended. The report has been in the
public domain since December 31 when it was first released on some common
platforms where the two of us belong.
Again,
I was on Thompson and the Gang on Saturday 4, January, 2020, to for the first
time, pass a public comment on the report, especially emphasizing that aspect
of the report and you came up with your "inspired idea" some minutes
after that. I am waiting for your
response on this before I take you up publicly on the matter. You may not be
able to handle the backlash on this issue when it begins.
Arakunrin Ajelogbon:
I'm disappointed by your words of allegation of plagiarism on me sir.
Meanwhile,
the Positive Agenda Nigeria wants to bring it to the public attention that this
is a clear plagiarism which does not indicate copy and paste of the original
work, but wrongful appropriation of ideas contained in the report to himself as
his suggestion to improved public engagement in the state with the intention of
getting attention of the government officials.

As
a Think-Tank that deploys innovative research approaches towards unearthing
hidden insights in governance and development in Nigeria, PAN believes that Arakunrin
Ajelogbon is making public to believe that he has the right solution to the gap
found by the group.
It
is instructive to note that Arakunrin Ajelogbon did not deem it fit to make his
idea known to the public via his page or newspaper within the six months
of Oyetola administration or during the celebration of first year anniversary.
“From
the reactions of his followers, it is obvious that they align with the post.
This is clear manifestation of getting aggrandizement from the work he never
produced and eventually engages in “consulting activity” with the Media Team,”
PAN points out.
According
to the group, psychosocial analysis of the post and followers shows that the
use of personal picture and email address signifies his interest in engaging
with the government officials and loyalists of the government and governor.
