PCI Series: PDP’s alternative solutions to unemployment amidst OYES Cadets’ alleged humiliation: Whose faults, whose benefits?

With 10 days to the governorship election in Osun State, it has appeared that parties, contenders and supporters would not hesitate to slug it out among themselves on issues affecting the youths, especially the unemployed ones in the State, analysis reveals.
The Positive Campaign Initiative analysis of the public statement by the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party, indicates that the press release issued by Bamidele Salam, head of Media and Public Communication for Ademola Adeleke Campaign Organisation was laced with anger and sadness, saying Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is subjecting job seekers in the State to various degrees of humiliation in his bid to influence the outcome of the September 22nd Governorship election in favour of his candidate. PCI discovered that the level of anger and sadness in the statement were 52% and 55% respectively.

Bamidele Salam was equally found to be critical in his approach to the Governors’ purported request that OYES cadets should take an oath of allegiance to the APC as a condition for being recruited or retained in the scheme and asking them to become compulsory vote canvassers for the APC candidate and trekking several kilometres in their respective wards and local governments under the watchful eyes of both party and government officials. Further analysis shows that Bamidele is confident that the action of the governor is wicked and inhumane. In fact, it is believed to be degrading and very unfortunate.

“It is more disheartening to note that Ogbeni Aregbesola who takes almost a billion Naira as Security votes every month is offering jobs to university graduates as street sweepers on the condition that they take an oath of allegiance to his political party. This action of the Governor clearly shows his utter disdain for the youths of Osun State and is enough reason for the electorate to reject the APC in the forthcoming election,” the statement notes.

The statement with 323 words was used to reiterate the commitment of Senator Ademola Adeleke to creating decent employment and job opportunities for the teeming youths of Osun state through the promotion of technology, agriculture and entrepreneurship with effect from the date of his assumption of office as Governor.
Would people vote PDP and Senator Adeleke during September 22 election based on the narrative and alternative solutions to unemployment in the State?
