We are only relevant 9 days to 2018 election, Iwo react to Aregbesola’s promise to rehabilitate Iwo-Osogbo road
Nine days to the 2018
governorship election in Osun State, Infoprations
has discovered that 32% of the 77 comments mined to understand Iwo indigenes’
reactions to the announcement that the rehabilitation of Iwo-Osogbo road will
commence very soon are not favourable to Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Few hours ago, Alao Olabisi
Kamoru, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in the city, posted on his social media handle
that he sought Governor’s audience on the need to extend the rehabilitation to
Anwar Islam Middle School through the city’s Roundabout to Kaara Junction, a
popular abattoir in the city.
“Last week Ogbeni Rauf
Adesoji Aregbesola made a pledge that Iwo township road that runs from New
Garage Junction through Roundabout to Odo0-Ori will be repaired. And I met with
him the following day and requested that he should include Anwar Islam Middle
School through Round about to Kaara Junction. He agreed. Work has now started
on the roads. I know that our agitation for the growth of Iwoland
will be achieved by God's grace,” Alao Olabisi Kamoru, a former Executive
Chairman of Iwo Local Council said.
The post which attracted 88
comments was considered by followers as late for the ruling party to get
maximum votes from the Iwoland. Further analysis shows that Honourable Alao was
commended more than Governor Aregbesola while majority believe that the ruling
party will not win in the city, saying the city has been neglected for the
years and that the road is being considered few days to the election.
Oluwo, inspecting the road rehabilitation in 2016 |
“Kudos to the Mr. Governor,
this is time of currying the favour of the people. We are only useful during
election period. We can never be deceived in Iwo by Ogbeni Aregbesola again. In
short, Iwo people are solidly behind Alhaji Adeoti Moshood Olalekan of the
Action Democratic Party. It can never be possible for All Progressives Congress
to win one electoral ward in Iwo,” Aremu Abiola, a follower pointed out.
In 2016, Oba Abdulrasheed
Akanbi of Iwo land initiated the rehabilitation of the long abandoned
44-kilometre Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan road, saying he could
not allow his people to suffer for passing through the road. Three years later,
he appealed to the Federal Government to rescue the city by reconstructing the
road. This appeal yielded the desire result during recent visit to Osun State
by the Professor Yemi Osinbajo, promising the reconstruction of the road.
