For almost 20 years, respectable Nigerians have been calling for a National Sovereign Conference to dialogue how we chose to live together as a nation. No President has been bold enough to take the initiatives and our law makers both in the Senate and the National Assembly have been too timid to make it a priority.
During the Obasanjo's years, we went through a series of Northern States that passed Sharia laws and citizens of those states are able to practice their Sharia laws within the confine of our constitution.
It appears to me that the main issue with the Boko Haram is that they don't want Christians in their communities. In every country even in the United States, we have instances where the KKK does not want African Americans or Jews in their communities. Although, there is no written laws that prohibit African Americans and Jews from living in KKK communities but they know how to avoid them and the people who suffered from this discrimination are the people perpetuating it. Because these communities are not diversed, they are relegated to Red Neck communities with low infant mortality, low per capita income, low SAT education scores.
Although, I am all for a united Nigeria, but for God's sake if some people don't want you in their communities excercise your right and vote with your feet. Consequently, it is these communities that would eventually suffer due to the capital and human flight. If a marriage is not working out, get out of it and don't stay in it and be miserable and perhaps end your life because you want to make it work because of the children or your religious beliefs.
