Whenever I read about extreme poverty in the Northern part of Nigeria, a lot of things always come to my mind. Why the poverty? when we have so many multi billionaires in the North than any region like Aliko Dangote, Mai Deribe, Mohammed Ndimi, Nasiru Ado Bayero, Sani Bello, Saleh Mohammed Jambo, Aminu Dantata among others. There are also multi-millionaires who are politicians in the North. Despite the fact that the North has ruled than any region, poverty is still in place.
The question is: Why is the North experiencing extreme poverty? As a muslim, I will say Islamic model of living is not followed. Are these billionaires or millionaires paying their ZAKAT? Do they have the fear of Allah? among others. If yes, why the extreme poverty in the North? Although, it is understood that poverty is everywhere in Nigeria something scholars(sociologists) have attributed mainly to corruption. Then can we say, Corruption is very high in the North than any region because of their extreme poverty. This calls for research.
