As Nigeria Police
renamed its Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Infoprations
has found that 81.5% of Nigerians’ sad feeling necessitate the need to
investigate highhandedness ascribed to the Unit.
This feeling was
expressed by Nigerians who reacted to a report that the Unit should be investigated.
According to the report “There is much compelling public evidence of human
rights violations committed by SARS, some of it directly documented by Amnesty
International, and this should now be used to aid an effective investigation
into the unit’s crimes."
Acting on the
directive, few hours ago, the Nigeria Police through its Public Relations
Department announced that the unit had been
renamed as Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) as SARS teams nationwide
would work under FSARS.
Analysis also reveals
that Nigerians cannot do without the Unit. Analysis suggests that an increase
in Nigerians’ interest in being secured increases their need to understand
activities of the Unit in the last 24 hours by 88.2%.
“We still have good and
intelligent Police Officers. Get them for the job. Nigerians no longer know the
difference between armed criminals and SARS criminals,” one of the people who
reacted on the overhauling of the Unit noted.
