This year Hajj is
expected to begin in the evening of Sunday 19 August in Mina. Already, world’s
eyes are on the city, where over 1 million Muslims across the world, will
perform certain Islamic rites associated with the pilgrimage. Infoprations’
analysis has revealed that people in 44 countries have searched for Hajj 2018
and pilgrims in the last 24 hours, indicating their interest in understanding
happenings on the annual global event.
Analysis shows that
world’s interest in the event is being driven by live commentaries,
understanding Hajj 2018, Hajj and Eid dates with 77.5%. Infoprations equally found that people developed interest in the
event by seeking knowledge on it using pilgrims. The need to understand
pilgrims, Hajj 2018 and pilgrims’ progress were found to be the significant
factors that enhanced people’s interest in nationals of the participating
countries.
Existing statistics
indicates that 2.4 million pilgrims performed Hajj rites in 2017. However, the
number of participants for this year is likely to be less because of various
macro-economic challenges facing participating countries.
