In 3 years, education standard decreased by 2.17% in Nigeria according to IHDI



A new Human Development Index has revealed that standard of education at all levels in Nigeria dipped by 2.17% between 2013 and 2016. The Index which was jointly released by the National Bureau of Statistics and the United Nation Development Programme indicates that 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja recorded decline in the Education Index while Borno and Jigawa  were the only states with the improved Index within the period of three years.  
The Inequality Human Development Index (IHDI) is an improvement over the Human Development Index with the adjustment made for inequality in the distribution of the dimension of Education, Income and Health.
“The Male Education Index is 0.8631 while the Female Education Index is 0.7310. Similarly, the Mean Years of Schooling Index (the number of years a 25 years old and above have spent in school) for male is 0.8324 while the female MYSI is 0.6785. In 2013, the Male EI is 0.8676 and MYSI is 0.6375 while the Female EI is 0.7700 and MYSI is 0.5021.”
The increase in the Female MYSI and EI respectively was attributed to the government deliberate policy towards female education.
