Recently, providers, professionals in the Nigerian Facilities Management
industry and other stakeholders in the built environment converged on Victoria
Island to chart a way forward for the industry. During the deliberation,
they agreed that it is high time that governments make and enforce policies
that will institutionalise
maintenance culture across the country.

The failure to have enabling policies with adequate enforcement would
continue to ensure problems with the maintenance of facilities, especially the
public infrastructure. In addition to the lack of enabling policies, it was emerged
that the providers and professionals, including the local and international
associations need to come together and devise the right framework for facility
management in the country.
From the stakeholders’ views in the industry to the governments and
institutions’ representatives, it is obvious that the industry needs a
concentric template for the promotion of the goods of the industry to the facility
users and decision makers in other industries. Our analyst notes that FM providers,
professionals and associations as the core actors need to devise appropriate
means of repeating the core values and benefits of the industry to the users
and policymakers.
