Mixed reactions have been trailing the Independent National Electoral Commission’s press release that warns Nigerians against spreading and believing in fake results being spread by some people on the social media.
On the
electoral body’s alert, some followers of the institution on Facebook believe
that there is nothing bad in having the results on the platform because
electorate have access to the results at ward level. Others expressed that the
electoral body is the only agency that should release the results not the
individuals.
Zanna
Musa Liman, one of the followers, said “The
implications of negative values of Social Media are enormous. We only believe
INEC.” Another commenter
want the electoral body to use the election to build trust in Nigerians,
telling Nigerians that it can deliver better and acceptable electoral process
and outcomes.
“I
don't know what is wrong with Nigerians. You gave a task to an agency instead
of allowing the agency to do the task and report back to us. You kept on
jumping the gun by circulating fake result via social media. Remember soldiers
are still waiting and watching... God bless Nigeria,” Rasaq Bello stressed, another
follower of the agency.
As
at the time of writing this report, the comments on the press release issued by
the electoral body has reached 234.
