Nigerians’ trust in Dino Melaye ‘Kidnapped’ incident, police reliability


Dino Melaye is a Nigerian Senator, representing Kogi West at the 8th National Assembly. Information from his family members reveals that he was “kidnapped on his way to Kogi State from Abuja to attend the court session for his gun running trial. News media have similarly reported that the Police on Thursday said they are investigating the “purported kidnap” of the Senator.
As the Police and members of the Senator’s political party, the People’s Democratic Party exchange words on the whereabouts of the Senator, Nigerians have been expressing their supports and disappointment on the incident since yesterday. While some are of the opinion that the Kogi lawmaker might have staged his own abduction, others said they were tired of the various drama playing out in Nigeria.
“I wholeheartedly condemn the abduction of @dino_melaye. I implore those that have kidnapped him to return him home safely to his family and loved ones. I urge the Federal Government to do its job and protect the Nigerian people before it is too late,” a Nigerian noted on Twitter, reacting to the incident.
Meanwhile, Infoprations’ analysis indicates that the incident has made the Kogi born Senator more popular in the last 24 hours. Analysis establishes that Dino Melaye as a person has reached 100% search interest threshold. 'Dino Melaye kidnapped' has also reached the highest search interest percent.
One percent interest in “Dino Melaye kidnapped” led to 61.5% of Nigerians’ interest in knowing Dino Melaye as a person, analysis reveals. However, analysis shows that Nigerians did not believe the incident by 23.2%. This percent also goes to the reliability of police efforts in dealing with the incident.
Analysis reveals that Police's failure to locate the Senator is likely to increase public distrust in reliability of police services in the next five days. According to the analysis, public distrust in police services would be 23.4%, 23.5%, 23.6%, 23.7% and 23.9% from Saturday 28th to Wednesday 1st August 2018.
Further analysis reveals that Dino Melaye, kidnapping, Senate of Nigeria, Bukola Saraki, Ayo Fayose, Ben-Murray-Bruce, kidnap and Yakubu Dogara were the top queries related with ‘Dino Melaye Kidnapped’, signifying Nigerians’ interest in understanding the whole incident in relation with the key members of the Senate and the Assembly itself considering the place of the Senator in the Assembly and Nigeria in general.
Out of the related queries, kidnapping, Ben Murray-Bruce, kidnap, Yakubu Dogara, Dino Melaye kidnapped and where is Dino Melaye now have reached breakout (beyond 5,000% threshold) as at the time of writing the analysis.
