Why these professions will continue to subsume Facility Management




In the last two decades, people and businesses have been witnessing unprecedented growth and development in every aspect needed for sustainable survival. To have sustainable survival, everything has to be managed professionally. This has ensured specific place for management professionals. From the consumer to non-consumer goods industries, from residential to commercial, management professionals are essential in ensuring effective performance of facilities, property, assets and building.
This observation prompts Infoprations to investigate the primary place of the facility management industry, an infancy industry in most countries in the world, along with the property, real estate, building and asset management. To many in the developed world, facility management is not new. In countries like Nigeria, Ghana and others in Africa, facility management as a profession has been misconstrued. It has been associated with property, real estate, asset and building management over the years.
Infoprations’ analysis indicates that the world’s interest in facility management in the last 5 years is incomparable with asset and property management. Analysis reveals that between 2013 and 2018 (till July) facility management search interest threshold was 24.47 score behind asset management which had 77.64 score.
The connectivity analysis suggests 58.5% connection rate for the facility and asset management. This establishes that people and businesses perceived FM as part of AM. Separating FM from building management seems untangle, analysis suggests. It was discovered FM connected with BM by 40.5%. For the real estate and property management, the differences are easier to spot out, analysis reveals.
As at the time of writing findings of the analysis, facility management in the news is 8.6 million while asset management, which has the highest connection with the profession, is 18.6 million. In the academic field, scholars have studied issues on facility management than asset management. Analysis also reveals that building management is better than the facility and asset management in the news and among the academics.
