From West to East and North of Africa,
interest in how the lives and property could be secured has been on the
increase since 2014. We have also learnt
that the public and companies’ interest in security is on the increase in
Limpopo, Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga, Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa.
The same trend has also been observed in
Mombasa, Nairobi (Kenya), Eastern region, Western region, Greater Accra region,
Central and Northern region (Ghana) Eastern, Northern, Central and Western
regions (Uganda), Guelmim-Es Semara, Rabat-Sale-Zemmour-Zaer,
Gharb-Chrarda-Benittsen, Chaowa-Ouardigha, Doukkala-Abda (Morocco), Southwest,
Northwest, West, Littoral and Centre (Cameroon), and Thies and Dakar (Senegal).
According to Numbeo’s recent survey,
people and property are safer in Morocco and Senegal than Nigeria, Ghana,
Kenya, Uganda and South Africa. With over 76 score, South Africa has the
highest number of crime rates, followed by Nigeria, which has 63.87 score out
of the 100-score range used in the survey.

These results have shown that
governments, businesses and people need to revisit approaches they are using
for securing life and belongings. There is no doubt Africa has experienced and
still witnessing various technological advancements which should be deployed
for security purposes at homes and workplaces.
In
today’s competitive environment (where threats to lives and property remain
unpredictable), securing lives and property is beyond using only mechanical
devices. It has made businesses, individuals and governments consider digitalization
of people, processes and appropriation of digital devices for the effective
policing in the cities and workplace. This indicates that security involves
physical and digital components, which must be prioritised as the world changes
and becomes more complex to live.
Apt!
